Anuket is the ancient Egyptian Goddess of the Nile River in the area around the First Cataract, where the Nile flowed over and around a rocky spot, making navigation difficult. She was worshiped from earliest times at Elephantine Island there. Her name means 'She Who Embraces' and refers to the high banks at that point which constrict the river.
