 
Mawu is a creator Goddess of the Fon of the old Kingdom of Dahomey (modern Benin); She is associated with both the Sun and the Moon, though in some tales She is considered the Moon and Her husband Lisa is the Sun, both children of Nana Buluku. She created the Earth and all the living creatures, but needed the help of the rainbow serpent Aida Hwedo to help lift it. As a creator Goddess, She can bring both life and death.
