Baubo is the Goddess of mirth and mischief in Greek myth, the Goddess of the belly laugh, if you will. When Demeter’s daughter Kore was abducted, Demeter searched the world in anxious despair; old Baubo cheered Her up by lifting Her skirts and making Demeter laugh. She is often depicted in clay figurines as having a body that consists of a large face in the belly, with legs beneath and Her vulva like a dimple in Her chin; She can also be shown lifting Her skirts, as here. This design is available on prints through ArtPal. |
