 
Hekate is the Greek Goddess of magic, witchcraft, and the night. She is a Goddess of crossroads, especially where three roads meet, and is said to protect the traveller out at night on lonely roads. She is a triple Goddess, ruling over the Sea, sky, and Underworld, and as such carries a torch to light the way, along with keys to unlock the gates to the underworld. She is shown here as a psychopomp, or soul guide, leading the viewer through a dark Underworld journey. But there is a faint light behind Her—for the darkness will not last forever.
