Hera of the Greeks has long been associated with cows, as symbols of wealth and fertility. She could poetically be called Boôpis, meaning 'Great-eyed', literally 'Cow-eyed'. I have shown Her here as a type of Potnia Theron, or Mistress of Animals, with a pair of short-horned cows, a breed known since ancient times. Done as a commission. |
